A wall sconce cut from a single piece of travertine into a half-moon: a straight flat top edge, a semicircular curve below, and a hollow bowl behind. Fixed flat to the wall with the cut face against the plaster, it throws warm light up out of its open mouth, so the wall above does the lighting rather than the fitting itself.
Design and materials
The bowl is natural travertine, creamy white through the body, which the supplier finishes by cutting, grinding and polishing. The surface keeps the open pores and fine markings of the raw stone, in the wabi-sabi manner. One colourway is offered. Because the stone is natural, the pores and banding fall differently on every piece.
Light
The fitting takes a G9 bulb and the supplier specifies a warm colour temperature. The bowl is hollow and open along its top edge, so the light is directed upward onto the wall rather than out into the room.
